February 6, 2007 Dear Sir/Madam,
It has come to my attention that many businesses and/or property owners that have signs posted on their property are not following Penn Forest Township Zoning Ordinance (PFTZO) pertaining to Signs.
A permit is required to post any sign which includes Banners.
PFTZO, Article IX, Section 9.101 Definitions defines a Banner as: “A long, narrow flag, with or without a frame, and with or without characters, letters, illustrations or ornamentations”.
Banners and Pennants are permitted as Wild-Card Signs. A Wild -Card Sign is defined as “A temporary sign identifying a special, unique or limited activity, service, product or sale of limited duration and having an area of less than sixteen (16) square feet. PFTZO allows Wild-Card Signs to be displayed for certain durations specified in Article IX.
Since there are many variables it is my suggestion that you obtain a copy of the Penn Forest Township (PFT) Sign Ordinance, Article IX, from the PFT Zoning Officer.
If you presently have a sign as described above and you have no permit (none have been issued by this officer) that you remove it immediately and apply for a permit at the PFT Zoning office.
There will be a grace period of forty five (45) day to comply with the Ordinance and after that this office will take enforcement action against all violations.
I may be reached at 570-325-3160 if you have any questions but once again I suggest you obtain a copy of this PFTZO Article IX.
Respectfully
Joseph F. Steber PFT Zoning Officer
